#WhatchaListeningTo Wednesdays

Here's what I'm listening to this week:
  • Passion Pit - Take a Walk - 0:26 will get you grooving a little bit! Love this Cambridge-originated band.
  • Marshall Crenshaw - You're My Favorite Waste of Time - such a sweet little song
  • Bell X1 - Safer Than Love - "Remember, breathe in and breathe out"
  • Grateful Dead - Friend of the Devil - I think we heard this on our road trip to the Berkshires this past weekend. I'd never heard it before, but dig the GD.
  • Desmond Dekker & The Aces - Israelites - a 92.5 DJ said that this was one of his favorite reggae songs and was perfect for a summery day, like we had this past weekend.

#RandomMusicFact - RHCP's 'Bridge' Located

Now this is what I call a true fan:

Vulture Finds The Bridge From the Red Hot Chili Peppers' 'Under The Bridge'

Mark Haskell Smith from Vulture.com let his curiosity out and decided to locate the bridge that Anthony Keidis supposedly wrote about it in "Under the Bridge."

"In a 1992 Rolling Stone interview with David Fricke, the singer refuses to divulge the location. 'It's downtown ... but it's unimportant. I don't want people looking for it,' he said, perhaps uneager to have a new pop-music landmark emerge from one of his life’s lowest moments. When contacted recently, the band's management refused to comment about the possible location of the bridge. We decided to look for it regardless."

This reminds me of dedicated fans of TV shows who travel to see the houses, neighborhoods and coffee shops featured in their favorite scenes.  Taking apart the song, however, seems like a much more interesting challenge.

Kinda cool - I wonder what other songs that are written about specific locations would be easy or difficult to locate... have you gone on an adventure to check out a place that's based on a favorite song, show or movie?

I found a link to this article on Radio 92.9's Facebook page - thanks, guys!

#WhatchaListeningTo Wednesdays - Birthday Week Edition

Here's what I'm listening to this week:
  • Mike Doughty - Madeline and Nine - I've loved Mike Doughty for a few years, but keep missing him every time he's in Boston.
  • Spoon - The Underdog - An old friend put this on a mix for me back in '05 or so, and I've been hearing it on the radio lately.
  • Regina Spektor - On the Radio - the video for this song is great!
  • Ed Sheeran - The A Team - he was in Boston recently, and I didn't know who he was - now I sorta wish I had gotten to see him!
  • Ben Howard - The Wolves - Another song that I've been hearing lately on the radio - makes me want to check out more of his stuff.

I'm calling this the Birthday Week Edition because tomorrow is my birthday, and my awesome coworkers brought in breakfast and snack stuff and gifts today!  I'll be out of the building with a student all day tomorrow, so that's why they did it today.  SO nice.  I got a cute Red Sox hat and a Ken Jennings Trivia book - I love trivia and have finally started playing Stump! Trivia with my boyfriend and friends.

#WhatchaListeningTo Wednesday

Here's what I'm listening to this week.  I'm getting geared up for EARTHFEST!

  • Spin Doctors - Two Princes - seriously, who doesn't like this one?
  • Third Eye Blind - Motorcycle Driveby - friends in college had a guitar duo and played this song in the stairwells of the dorms...
  • Eve 6 - Promise Ah, high school memories...
  • Switchfoot - Dare You To Move - This was used in A Walk To Remember, one of the fabulous chick flicks of the early 2000s that I don't mind admitting to watching ;-)
and, unrelated, but I was diggin' it:
  • John Butler Trio - I'd Do Anything - I heard this in the car on the way to work today, and have been loving anything the JBT does.

Another plug for Radio 92.9's EarthFest.  Go to it. This Saturday, May 19th.
:-)  Be there, or be... well... somewhere not as much fun.

Follow me on Twitter at @joannab for updates during EarthFest with the #hashtag #EF929 and #EarthFest - there will be other RadioHeads tweeting and Facebook-ing live, too!

Spin Doctors - 2:30pm-3:15pm

Third Eye Blind - 3:45pm-4:45pm

3.  It's for people who dig helping the environment and dig companies who help the environment.  That's ALSO you, right?

4. It's FREE.

... Do you really need any more reasons?  Free. Music.  Radio 92.9.  Boston.  FREE.

#WhatchaListeningTo Wednesdays

Here's what I'm listening to this week:

  • Counting Crows - Omaha (live!) - I heard this on the radio this week for the first time, and didn't realize it's an old one... oops.  Oh, Adam Duritz, your hair is almost too much to handle, and I love it.
  • Garbage - Blood For Poppies - I've heard this a few times in the last week or two and it's sticking with me for some reason... still figuring that one out...
  • Joy Division - Love Will Tear Us Apart - I know it's an old one, but I don't really know much Joy Division, and am definitely late to this party, seeing as how this is from 1979.  Another oops.  If I'm correct, Lauren over at LaRockism is a JD fan, right?
  • Andrew Bird - Eyeoneye - "Go ahead and re-eyeoneye yourself/ Give yourself a hand..."
  • Jeff Buckley - Last Goodbye - from the man whose version of "Hallelujah" is well-known... he left this earth far too soon.

#WhatchaListeningTo Wednesdays

Here's what I'm listening to this week:

  • Bruce Springsteen - Lonesome Day - Everyone on the radio has been talking about The Boss coming to Boston this summer; I've never seen him in concert, but who knows, maybe one day!
  • The War On Drugs - Baby Missiles - this song sorta made me think of Arcade Fire for some reason, who I also enjoy.
  • Trevor Hall - Brand New Day - this has been used for some TV promo things (the new CBS morning show, if I remember correctly)... "Whatcha waiting for? It's a brand new day."
  • David Gray - A Moment Changes Everything - Anything David Gray, I'm into it.
  • Karmin - Brokenhearted - Another fun original from this duo (and couple!)
