10 Best Overplayed Songs - Play It Again, Sam?

B-B-B-Benny and the Jets.

You've heard it... 300 times in your life? 301, maybe?
The Thought Catalog is back again with thoughts about the 10 best overplayed songs.  Take a look at the list:

"Three Little Birds"Bob Marley - A fun song, there are songs I'm certainly more tired of hearing...
"Hands Down" - Dashboard Confessional - I didn't expect this to ever be on a list like this, and don't know the last time I heard this song, other than on my iPod's 'Shuffle' option.
"Like A Prayer"Madonna
 "What's Your Fantasy?"Ludacris
"Imagine" - John Lennon - Used in countless tributes, and who doesn't like The Beatles?
"Bennie and the Jets"Elton John - Just try to listen to this song and resist just one round of "B-B-B-Benny!"
"Time After Time"Cyndi Lauper
"Wonderful Tonight" Eric Clapton - This song just makes me think about my high school junior prom, but I don't really hear it often enough to consider it "overplayed songs list worthy"
“Auld Lang Syne”Multiple Artists (Writer, Robert Burns) - New Years Eve, graduations, you name it, they sing this song there.  Sorta inevitable.
"Let Me Clear My Throat" - DJ Kool - Always a crowd favorite!

What do you think of this list?  Any of your favorites make the Thought Catalog's list?  Any you would add?

#WhatchaListeningTo Wednesdays

Anyone else feeling like this is the longest week ever? Here's what I'm listening to this week:
  • Iron & Wine - Innocent Bones - this song has a sweet sound to it, but the lyrics don't necessarily match, still figuring it all out...
  • U2 - Everlasting Love  - a great cover of the 1967 hit!
  • Bob Schneider - Big Blue Sea - "And its days like this that burn me/ Turn me inside out and learn me... At the bottom of the big blue sea/ Just you and me/ At the bottom of the big blue sea"
  • Dr. John - Revolution - This guy is gooooooooood. Wish I'd gotten into his stuff sooner!
  • Brett Dennen - Comeback Kid (That's My Dog) - You can't help but bop along to this one. Also, his hair and dance moves are FABULOUS.

#WhatchaListeningTo Wednesday

Here's what I'm listening to on this steamy week in the Boston area:

  • David Gray - Money (That's What I Want) - He just belts it out; it's so soulful.  I've got the end stuck in my head: "It is you/ yeah yeah, yeah yeah..."
  • Adam Ezra Group - Takin' Off - "Months and years can flash like fireflies/ 'Til all you're left with is the passing time..." A Boston-based band!  I especially like this video, since the band fit a bunch of fan videos together to create the music video for the song.  I always love to look around while at a show to see what kinds of angles people are shooting from, and then checking out what others saw that I might have missed.
  • Mumford & Sons - The Boxer - I love pretty much everything that Simon & Garfunkel has done, and this is a great cover.
  • Paul Simon - Late In the Evening - this was a great find on Monday morning radio.
  • tUnE-yArDs - Gangsta - a random Monday morning radio find; something definitely different and for some reason, I couldn't stop listening to it.  Still trying to decide if I really like it or not...

#WhatchaListeningTo Wednesday

Here's what I'm listening to this week:

  • Adele - I'll Be Waiting - basically the only Adele song I'm not tired of! Sing it, girl.
  • Grace Potter and the Nocturnals - Never Go Back - "I’m pushin’ up on the ceiling/ I’m beatin’ back all my demons/ And I’m never lettin’ you back in again..."
  • Incubus - Dig - Heard this on the radio this week and realized that I haven't listened to anything from them in a long time...
  • Walk The Moon - Anna Sun - loving this song, partly because it makes me think of my friend Kurtis John and the band he and some other friends used to be in (The Last Goodnight / Renata) - sort of a similar sound to me, and I am curious to learn more about and listen to more of Walk The Moon's music.
  • State Radio - Right Me Up - there's a Kayem hot dog commercial that uses this song and it's been on TV more and more lately, and I love the music video for the song - very sweet, check it out.
    • State Radio - Calling All Crows - bonus! I hadn't ever seen this video before, but it makes me want to go and grab all my girlfriends and... uh... change the world?  Go dancing?  Both?

#WhatchaListeningTo Wednesdays - Wedding Edition

So, I was in LA this past weekend for my friends' wedding - I was so honored to take part in the wedding as a bridesmaid and had the BEST time.  You know what can really  make or break a wedding, though?

THE MUSIC.

Well, I guess the food and the company matters, but still. ;-)

Nicole and Jay's DJ was really great - great energy and played exactly what they wanted.  Their DJ was Shawn Vasquez of Amazing Event DJs in South Pasadena, CA and he did an amazing job getting the guests involved and pumped up!

We even made a few requests and he came through.  Cha Cha Slide, anyone?

Here's just a selection of what we got our groove thangs moving to:

I can't wait to see the photos of us boogying down on the dance floor!

Also, they learned a sweet and beautiful dance to Jason Mraz's I Won't Give Up - definitely made me tear up and listen to the song in a new way.  I am so excited for my friends on their new married adventure!

Perfect weekend, perfect wedding, perfect couple, perfect music!  For me, music can make a situation that much more meaningful... which means that when it comes time for my wedding, I am definitely going to have to turn to using a spreadsheet like Nic did! ;-)
