Here's what I've been listening to this week:

• Civil Twilight - River - "Take a little dive into the river baby/ I don't mind..."
• Jose Gonzalez - Heartbeats - This version of this beautiful song game up on the Gomez channel on Pandora. The original by The Knife reminds me a lot of something from Grimes.
• Local Natives - Wide Eyes - the video, on first viewing, makes me think that it's about finally coming to terms with and facing your fears, but reading other listeners' takes on it makes me go back and re-listen and watch.
• Mumford & Sons - Lover of the Light - "But I'd be yours if you'd be mine..."
• Eels - I Like Birds - a cute little ditty that I heard while watching The Big Year.

Here's what I'm listening to this week:

• Mumford and Sons - I Will Wait - This is their new single, released on local radio yesterday, and I'm loving it.  That banjo really drives this song, and I love that this track is accompanied by video of a birds-eye-view journey down a road.  The video ends with 'Road To Red Rocks' - boy oh boy, do I want to get on the road to Red Rocks one day!
• Guster - Careful - I've gotten to see Guster a few times, and have met them twice.  They've got a fun attitude during their shows and cover some great songs.   And how does Brian Rosenworcel (from my hometown!) still have his hands attached to his body after all these years? Crazy.
• Josh Ritter - Change of Time - "I had a dream last night..."
• Arcade Fire - The Suburbs - This is an incredible album all around, and I was so excited when this album won the Grammy for Album Of the Year in 2011.  A great driving album.
• James Morrison - Wonderful World - Beautiful song, and I love the Ray Lamontagne-ness that his voice has.  Yes, that's right, I just made up a word. "Well I thought that I was doing well/ But I just want to cry now/ Well I know that it's a wonderful world/ From the sky down to the sea/ But I can only see it when you're here, here with me..."

Here's what I'm listening to on this steamy week in the Boston area:

• David Gray - Money (That's What I Want) - He just belts it out; it's so soulful.  I've got the end stuck in my head: "It is you/ yeah yeah, yeah yeah..."
• Adam Ezra Group - Takin' Off - "Months and years can flash like fireflies/ 'Til all you're left with is the passing time..." A Boston-based band!  I especially like this video, since the band fit a bunch of fan videos together to create the music video for the song.  I always love to look around while at a show to see what kinds of angles people are shooting from, and then checking out what others saw that I might have missed. 
• Mumford & Sons - The Boxer - I love pretty much everything that Simon & Garfunkel has done, and this is a great cover.
• Paul Simon - Late In the Evening - this was a great find on Monday morning radio.
• tUnE-yArDs - Gangsta - a random Monday morning radio find; something definitely different and for some reason, I couldn't stop listening to it.  Still trying to decide if I really like it or not...

#MusicMyFriendsGotMeInto: Of Monsters and Men

I love when my friends introduce me to music I've never heard before, especially when they're passionate about it.  I'm lucky to have friends, connected to the music industry and otherwise, who have shared incredible new music with me over the years. 


Today's #MusicMyFriendsGotMeInto moment (I'm stuck on creating new hashtags, don't judge me!) is brought to you by Courtney, one of my best friends from college. She introduced me to Of Monsters and Men:

As she says, this indie/folk/ska band is definitely a bit like an Icelandic Mumford and Sons, who I also enjoy. 

"Little Talks" - Of Monsters and Men

The male lead singer's reminds me so much of Torquil Campbell from Stars (Canadian indie pop band), it was hard to listen to this song and not expect a Stars song to follow.  I have read that Rolling Stone has called Of Monsters and Men a "new Arcade Fire" in addition to being the "Icelandic Mumford and Sons".
